Dodgy Update for X on Dapper

August 22nd, 2006

For any Ubuntu Dapper users who didn’t see this… there was a dodgy version of xserver-xorg-core released yesterday which breaks your X server. The thread on Ubuntu forums is here. There will be a fixed version on synaptic soon, so you’ll save yourself some hassle by not apt-get-upgrading today.

I got the update already, so it’s out there. Luckily I didn’t reboo… hang on… who reboots Linux? ;)

Dapper is driving me nuts. There is a known keyboard handling bug which has been around for weeks which makes it almost unusable on a ton of different laptops. Characters keep getting repeated at random. A big pity cos Warty worked perfectly on the same 7 year old box.
