As it happens, I was in America when I bought the book, so my copy is entitled 'The Golden Compass'. I understand that the film will also be released with two names, and it will be known as 'The Northern Lights' in Ireland.

I was landed with a damn ermine...

The CGI does look a bit shoddy, but maybe the trailer footage will be improved upon before the release; they made it quite clear in the clip that the film is still very much a work in progress. What's with the name though? I remember the first book being called 'Northern Lights'.
