Monster.com: Spam Capital of the Internet

Today, Monster.com have taken one step closer to their goal: becoming responsible for all the spam on the internet. They spammed just about every internet user in Cork (except me, hehehe). Tom Raftery has the details: Monster steals email addresses and spams it@cork membership. It was not too long ago – 2 months? – that [...]

The Advertising Dilemma

Damien has a fairly thorough rant about online advertising. Covers just about everything, from the ugliness of Google Ads to the deception of Pay Per Post (that’s these guys). I always had similar feelings about advertising on blogs… I don’t have a problem with other people who do it, but I never would have considered [...]

Techcrunch UK (oh… and Ireland)

Michael Arrington has announced the relaunch of a more localised Techcrunch, Techcrunch UK – sometimes referred to as Techcrunch UK & Ireland. It’s good to see a place which will bring more coverage to Irish tech news, but it is disappointing to see the owner (of all people) referring to it as “Techcrunch UK”. Yes, [...]

Ionel Ganea

A 22 game ban seems very lenient for this:

Facebook: We are Going Backwards

I heard good things about Facebook and its open API, supposedly a major step in the evolution of social networking and the internet, but to me it feels like we’re going backwards. As I decline my 4th invitation to install the latest “Brain-guzzling Shoggoths” app added by an enthusiastic new Facebook user, I’m reminded of [...]

Glass Art by Xia Xiaowan

I’ve spent some today time browsing the website that posted about Tilt Scream Pong: Future Feeder. It’s a bit like BoingBoing but without all the Steampunk. There’s lots of good stuff there… one item that I thought was particularly interesting is this post about a Chinese artist called Xia Xiaowan and his peculiar glass art. [...]

The Cheese Steak Shop, San Francisco

Thanks to the miracle of Google Maps’ new Street Level views of San Francisco (also available in LA, Denver, Miami, NY, Las Vegas), I can once again gaze upon the Shangri-La of the fast food world: The Cheese Steak Shop on Divisadero. Some day I will return. Caution: too many cheese steaks will kill you.

WordPress Stats Plugin

I installed the new plugin from WordPress.com – a very nice addon. Slightly worried about what I’m seeing though, as the first hit to come through was a search referral for “Night Elves having Sex” and it got worse from there.

Nintendo's Success

Kotaku highlights this Wall Street Journal article which examines Nintendo’s success so far in 2007. Having never paid much attention to the portable market, the extent of the Nintendo DS’ dominance is surprising to me. What is not surprising, however, is the performance of the Wii relative to its expensive competitors. Despite initial doubts based [...]
